Location:       County wide

Salary:          £32,000 FTE

Hours:           28-35 hrs per week.

Term:            Contract ending 31/05/2027

Are you looking for a varied, rewarding and creative role where you can lead a project that will celebrate the history of Age UK Lancashire over the last 85 years?

If so, look no further! We are recruiting an experienced Project Manager to lead the implementation and delivery of our 85th anniversary heritage project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The project in a nutshell:

Our project intends to discover, record, document and make available the history of Age UK Lancashire, and older people’s experiences of ageing through the generations, since we were established on 11th December 1941. This will be encapsulated in a digital archive, film and book. For the future, we want to record young people’s perceptions and expectations of how they think ageing will affect them and create a time capsule to look back on in the years to come.

During the project, we want to raise Age UK Lancashire’s profile, increase awareness of our work and celebrate our impact over 85 years. We want to use this milestone to encourage people of all ages to support our cause through volunteering, donations and legacies, inspired by the stories shared through the project. We want staff and volunteers to keep the story going by training them in recording oral histories and curating our ongoing history.

As the Project Manager you will:

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive project plan covering all strands to include: research, oral histories, digital archive, publication, film production, community engagement and time capsule creation.
  • Lead the day-to-day operational delivery of the project, ensuring milestones, budgets and reporting requirements are met.
  • Recruit, support and coordinate volunteers participating in oral history interviews, research tasks and events
  • Build and maintain relationships with heritage organisations, schools and youth groups, libraries, museums, local historians and community partners.
  • Oversee the discovery, research and documentation of the organisation’s 85‑year story in Lancashire.
  • Plan and deliver events that celebrate the project, including launch events, community gatherings, storytelling sessions and anniversary celebrations.
  • Produce evaluation reports demonstrating achievements, learning and future recommendations.
  • Establish a sustainable legacy plan, ensuring staff and volunteers can continue oral history and archiving activities beyond the project.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be able to manage time limited multi-phase projects with diverse stakeholders.
  • Possess creative approach to project delivery
  • Be experienced in engagement and networking
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to engage across all age groups
  • Have an understanding of safeguarding responsibilities when working with older people and volunteers
  • Enjoy working independently and be self-motivated
  • Have excellent organisational skills with an eye for detail
  • Be flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Hold a full valid driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes.

This is a Lancashire wide role where you will make community visits, attend partnership meetings and spend time at our offices working with Age UK Lancashire colleagues and your volunteer team.

We know you will understand why we want to make sure we recruit the right person with the right skills, experience, and abilities to join our team, so it is important that you give us as much information about what makes you the right person for this role on your application form.
