Act Now, Age Better in Norfolk: What’s Your Next Move?
Staying active is one of the most important ways to stay healthy, independent, and connected as we age. That’s why Age UK has launched its national Act Now, Age Better campaign—encouraging people aged 50–65 to take simple steps now to improve their health and wellbeing later in life.
Here in Norfolk, Age UK Norfolk is supporting the campaign by helping people discover local activities and support to stay active and age well.
This year’s theme, “Your Next Move”, is all about finding enjoyable, realistic ways to build more movement into your daily life—whatever your starting point.
Why staying active in mid-life matters
Being physically active in your 50s and 60s can have a big impact on your future health. Regular movement can help you to:
- Maintain strength, balance, and mobility
- Improve mental health and boost mood
- Reduce the risk of long-term health conditions
- Stay independent for longer
- Build social connections and reduce loneliness
The key message? You don’t have to be sporty or super fit—every movement counts.

Build confidence to get out and about
For many people, the first step to becoming more active is simply feeling confident leaving the house and getting around safely.
Our Travelling Companionship service supports people to build that confidence. In fact, a large proportion of the journeys we support are focused on helping people feel more comfortable with walking and getting out independently again.
