Winter Fuel Payment
Many of us worry about rising fuel costs, but not heating our homes properly puts us at risk of cold-related illnesses such as pneumonia.
If you have reached Pension Credit age (the minimum age at which you qualify for the benefit), or receive certain benefits, you will get extra money to help you in winter.
The Winter Fuel Payment is an annual payment to help with heating costs, made to households that include someone over Pension Credit age.
Most people born before 5 August 1953 will qualify for the payment in 2018/19.
In 2018/19 the payments are:
- £200 if you’re under 80
- £300 if you’re 80 or over
The amount paid is per household, not per person.
How do I claim?
You only need to claim once. After this you should get it automatically each year as long as your circumstances don’t change.
To ask about your payment or make a claim, call the Winter Fuel Payment Helpline on 03459 15 15 15.
Every year our Advice Service deals with thousands of calls from older people in need. Call us today to make sure that you are receiving all the help and support available to you.
