Funding our impact
Let's change how we age in Plymouth.
At Age UK Plymouth, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to age well, with the support, connections and confidence to live independently for as long as possible.
For us, that means ensuring older people, people living with dementia and unpaid carers across Plymouth can continue to live fulfiling and independent lives. Every day, we provide practical support, trusted advice and opportunities to stay active within our community.
As an independent local charity, much of this work is only possible because of the generosity of trusts, foundations, businesses and individual supporters who share our commitment to improving later life in Plymouth. Their investment enables us to respond to local need, develop new services and ensure that more people can access the support they need, when they need it.
Responding to a growing need
Plymouth is home to almost 49,000 people aged 65 and over, and this number continues to grow. Alongside an ageing population, increasing numbers of people are living with dementia, long term heath conditions and the effects of loneliness and social isolation. Many unpaid carers are also providing vital support to family members while managing significant pressures of their own.
These challenges are particularly acute in Plymouth, where some communities experience high levels of deprivation that directly affect health, wellbeing and life expectancy. Over the next four years, around 5,000 people are expected to be living with dementia in the city, creating even greater demand for specialist support and advice.
Despite this growing need, Age UK Plymouth receives very limited core statutory funding for most of its work. As a result, we rely on grant funding, partnerships and donations to sustain and develop the services that make such a difference to local people.
The difference your support makes
Each year, funding from our supporters enables us to help more than 3,000 people across Plymouth.
This includes helping older people to stay connected through our Wellbeing Services, providing expert Information and Advice on issues such as benefits, housing and financial wellbeing and offering practical support during periods of illness, bereavement and major life change.
Funding also enables us to provide tailored support for people living with dementia and the unpaid carers who support them through our Dementia Services, while extending our reach into local communities to support those who are most isolated and least likely to ask for help.
Together, these services help people remain independent for longer, improve wellbeing and reduce the loneliness, uncertainty and financial hardship that many older people experience.
Keeping your support local
Every contribution made to Age UK Plymouth stays within the city, directly supporting local people and strengthening local communities.
Funding from trusts, foundations and businesses plays a vital role in helping us expand our services and reach people who might otherwise feel unseen.
Just as importantly, this funding allows us to respond to changing local needs, develop new approaches and continue providing high quality services in an increasingly challenging environment.
Thank you to our supporters
We are incredibly grateful to the trusts, foundations, businesses and organisations that choose to support our work.
Their commitment enables thousands of older people, people living with dementia and unpaid carers to access practical help, trusted advice and opportunities to remain active and connected within their communities.
