Age UK Plymouth offers free, independent and confidential information and advice for people aged 50 and over.

We can help with things like understanding your rights and entitlements, finding local services and support, staying safe and warm at home and looking at housing options. Our focus is on giving clear, practical information so you can feel more informed and confident about what's available to you.

This is a free service, available to those who fall under the remit of Plymouth City Council.

How we can support you

We offer a range of practical, friendly support for people over retirement age, helping you feel more confident about the options available and what you may be entitled to.

• This includes support with welfare benefits, such as checking eligibility and helping complete claim forms, so you can make sure you're receiving everything you're entitled to

• We can also help you explore care and support services that may suit your needs, including guidance on accessing Social Services and understanding how care and support can be funded.

• If housing is on your mind, we can talk you through your options, including advice on adaptations and equipment that can make your home safer and more comfortable.

• We'll also keep you informed about local services, community groups and activities that could help you stay connected and active, as well as linking you in with other trusted organisations that support older people and carers.

• Alongside this, we provide advice on everyday issues such as scam awareness and understanding your consumer rights, helping you feel more informed and protected.

• We can also share guidance on improving energy efficiency at home, supporting you to stay warm, well and comfortable.

While we're not able to provide specialist advice on areas such as debt, financial planning, legal matters or immigration, we will always do our best to point you in the right direction. If we can't help directly, we'll explain why and, with your permission, refer you or signpost you to a trusted organisation that can offer the right support.

Free benefits check

You could be entitled to financial support and not even realise it. The Age UK Benefits Calculator is a quick and simple way to check what you might be able to claim. It asks a few straightforward questions about your circumstances and gives you an estimate of the benefits you could be entitled to.

Last year, our Information and Advice team helped secure over 2 million in benefits and entitlements for local residents in Plymouth alone - money that can make a real difference day to day.
