PUBLIC NOTICE

Plymouth Age Concern - William and Patricia Venton Centre

Plymouth Age Concern, in its capacity as trustee of the William and Patricia Venton Centre (“the Fund”), has applied to the Charity Commission for consent under section 280A of the Charities Act 2011 to amend the charitable purposes of the Fund to:

(1) The relief of those in need by reason of age or disability among older and disabled people in and around Plymouth by such means as may be decided by the trustee.

(2) To further the charitable purposes of Plymouth Age Concern.

The proposed amendment would remove the current requirement for the Fund's charitable purposes to be delivered through the William and Patricia Venton Centre itself and would allow those purposes to be delivered through alternative means for the benefit of older people in Plymouth.

The amendment could facilitate the future sale or disposal of the William and Patricia Venton Centre, since the Fund would no longer be required to operate through a physical centre. The value represented by the property could then potentially be applied more broadly towards Plymouth Age UK’s charitable purposes, including by providing support to more beneficiaries at our other site in Plymstock and other locations in the community.

The proposed change would mean that the value currently held in the William and Patricia Venton Centre would no longer have to be permanently preserved and could instead be used to support our work for older people in Plymouth in a variety of different ways.
