Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin and the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms are looking to recruit volunteers to help set up a new gardening group for local older people.

Bloomin’ Marvellous is for people aged 60 plus, living in the Craven Arms area, who are interested in gardening and who would like to get involved in developing an area of the Centre’s community gardens. The group will meet weekly, for about two hours, with the day and times decided by the group. The group will also decide the outline and aims of the project, in conjunction with the Centre, and a devise a seasonal plan.

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: ‘The Discovery Centre are keen to attract more local older people and we are delighted to be working with them to create a new group that could reach out to local older people who may not have used the centre previously and are keen to get out and join in with the local community. Gardening together is a great way to get outdoors and meet others.’

‘We are initially looking for two or three volunteer gardeners to lead on this new and exciting project. Volunteers should be physically fit and able to work in the gardens, sowing, planting and tending and welcoming, friendly and supportive to others who wish to join the group. The group will be supported by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin and the Centre Manager.’

If you can spare a few hours one day a week and would like to get involved, please contact our Volunteer Recruitment team on 01743 233 123 or email volunteering@ageukstw.org.uk
