Older residents invited to have their say on social care in Sutton

Published on 09 January 2018 04:30 PM

Paul Scully MP, Nick Ireland, Acting Director of Adult Social Services for Sutton Council, and Lucie Waters, Managing Director of the NHS Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group will feature on the panel for the first Age UK Sutton Forum event on 18th January 2018.

The event is the first in a new series which offers Sutton residents the opportunity to engage with local decision makers on key later life issues such as care, health and transport.

Older people should be able to live well, not just survive, and the right care and support can help them do this. Across the UK 1.2 million older people are left to struggle each day without that support. A number of issues with our national care system are affecting care in Sutton, with local providers seeking solutions and residents keen to understand how new plans will affect the services they rely on.

Sutton residents are invited to attend to meet decision makers, hear about the challenges and changes in plan, voice opinions and experiences, and put questions to those who can have a real impact on the future of social care in Sutton.

The panel for the event includes decision-makers and influencers in the care and health provision for Sutton, and the MP for the ward where the event is to take place:

  • MP for Sutton and Cheam - Paul Scully
  • Acting Director of Adult Social Services for Sutton Council - Nick Ireland
  • CEO of Sutton Carers Centre - Rachael MacLeod
  • Managing Director of the NHS Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group - Lucie Waters

The panel will be chaired by CEO of Age UK Sutton, Nicola Upton, who said:

“We are proud to launch our new series of Age UK Sutton Forums, giving older people and senior decision makers the chance to come together in dialogue.

Given this week’s announcement that social care will now be included in the new ministerial portfolio of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the theme of this event is particularly relevant and we look forward to exploring how recent national decisions will impact locally.

This event is an excellent opportunity for people to hear from key decision-makers on what we can expect from social care in Sutton. In turn, attendees have the chance to voice their opinions and share their views of social care with local decision-makers.

The event is open to all older people of Sutton, and anyone who cares about making Sutton a great place to grow older, and we look forward to welcoming them to our inaugural Forum.”

Age UK Sutton Forums: Care in Sutton will take place on Thursday 18th January 2018 at 2.00 PM (registration from 1.30 PM) at the Sutton Salvation Army Church, 45 Benhill Ave, Sutton SM1 4DD.
