Christine – Knitting Volunteer

Knitting Volunteers help raise funds for Age UK Waltham Forest through knitting items for craft fairs or taking part in Innocent Smoothies Big Knit campaign.

How long have you been volunteering with Age UK Waltham Forest?

I have been a volunteer for almost 11 years!

What is your volunteer role and what does it involve?

I ran a knitting group pre Covid but now help to run a monthly craft group as well as knitting items to help fundraise. Over the years I have probably made around 2000 little hats for the Big Knit Campaign; numerous Christmas puddings, robins, raindeers and Santas for Christmas stalls, Easter chicks, knitted covers for door wreaths and squares for blankets to be sold at the Hub. My latest project is cardigans for toddlers!

Why did you decide to get involved and volunteer with us?

I replied to a request in my Church newsletter asking for someone who could knit.

What do you like best about volunteering with us?

I really enjoy my time with Age UK Waltham Forest. They are a great team who are very supportive and do such amazing work in the Borough.
