Noreen – Information and Advice Volunteer

Information and Advice volunteers support our free and confidential information and advice service for older people, their families and carers ranging from benefit checks to social care advice to housing support.

How long have you been volunteering with Age UK Waltham Forest?

I have been volunteering for Age UK Waltham Forest for 12 months

What is your volunteer role and what does it involve?

My duties involve data input on client referrals from social services and hospitals, dealing with phone enquiries, dealing in person with clients including benefit checks and registering clients on our system.

Why did you decide to get involved and volunteer with us?

I decided to get involved with Age UK Waltham Forest because I wanted to give back to my local community, especially after the pandemic where I could see more senior folks needed help with everyday things.

What is the biggest challenge you faced volunteering with us?

Making sure I understand and have knowledge on benefits and regulations, since clients are often in difficulty and look to us to provide guidance. Age UK Waltham Forest have a lot of resources to help train their volunteers.
