Daybreak - respite for carers in West Sussex

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove runs carer-focused respite service.

We provide the opportunity for carers of people with dementia and carers of frail older people to take some time for themselves, knowing the people they care for are in a safe, stimulating environment.

How does the service work?

Both the carer and person who is cared for become register with Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove and the Daybreak Service once a referral and subsequent assessment have been made.

A referral can be made by family, friends, social services, GPs, nurses or other carers.

The assessment takes place at your chosen centre and involves a series of questions which enable us and you to ensure Daybreak is the ideal choice for the carer and person who is cared for. There is a two-hour free trial and assessment which you stay with your loved one - meaning that you can be perfectly sure Daybreak is right for you both.

What do our days at Daybreak involve?

For those who are frail or have dementia, our social days involve group activities, cognitive stimulation games a delicious lunch and all refreshments. Carers may be comfortable in the knowledge that those who are usually in their care, spend the day in trusted hands.

For carers, there is a relaxing space at the centre where carers may gather together, chat and share experiences. If carers would like to take part in their own activities as a group, we welcome suggestions for ways to tailor the days to suit you.
