A healthy and happy New Year

Published on 16 January 2019 09:58 AM

We would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy new year. Last year was a very busy and exciting time for us as a charity here at Y Cartref Bontnewydd, we welcomed hundreds of people through our doors last year, new and loyal. We really hope that we will be fortunate enough to have the same level of success and support again in 2019.

As the New Year period is a time of making resolutions, why not make a resolution to be more active and healthy in 2019 and take advantage of the variety of activities and events that take place at Y Cartref? There are weekly activities such as keep fit, as well as various craft sessions that keep the brain active!  We also intend to introduce board games and card sessions early in the New Year.

Whilst in the middle of the cold Winter season, we as a charity continue to promote the keeping healthy and safe message over this period as well as the No One Should Have No One campaign. A very successful event was held at Y Cartref before Christmas in which 20 local people were invited to come along to enjoy a nutritious meal to ensure companionship and a Celebration for all. Over the next few months we will start a new service offering checks within people's homes to ensure that they are safe and that their homes are more energy efficient.

Nutritious meals are a key aspect of keeping healthy during the winter months and our Café is an important resource in securing this as well as offering socialising opportunities, whether to those who volunteer or for those who are loyal customers. Over the period from February to March 2019, as well as the usual Monday to Friday provision, the café will offer special meals to accompany St. Valentine’s Day (February 14th, 2019) and St David's Day (5th and 7th March 2019).

Another important development for us during the New Year is that we will be commencing another new service - our meals in the home service for the Bontnewydd area and local area. We will be transporting hot and cold dishes to local residents, for £7 per person for two delicious courses prepared in our kitchen by Sheila!.

We are also always looking for volunteers to help us at Y Cartref or other locations and so if you have a few hours to spare each week why not become a volunteer for Age Cymru Gwynedd and Môn?

If you require further information about what is available at Y Cartref Bontnewydd, or to book a place at the Café or to the meals in the home service, or if you have any suggestions on the types of activities that you would like to see provided, then please contact Nicola Jennings on 01286 808 732 or nicola@acgm.co.uk
