Age UK Hammersmith & Fulham Visit Fulham FC

Published on 17 August 2022 04:40 PM

It was a glorious day for us at Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham to take 13 women to Craven Cottage Stadium on Saturday, 19 February, to see Fulham FC play Huddersfield Town!

Did you know that women make up over a third of the Premier League audience? Yet, when you watch the match live in a stadium, the number of women is significantly lower.

Fulham FC Supporters Trust board member, Tamara Dragadze, noticed older women were absent in the stands of football matches. Women who no longer had a partner to go with or would not go alone. Tamara reached out to us at Age UK H&F, and we loved the idea of reconnecting women with football and providing those who had never been to a football match their first experience.

As part of the Fulham Supporters Trust initiative to get more women to football matches, Fulham FC CEO, Alistair Mackintosh, offered free tickets for a minibus load of ladies from Age UK Hammersmith & Fulham to watch the game.

We partnered with George Bageya, Health & Wellbeing Manager at Stoll – a local association that provides supported housing to vulnerable veterans – and together, 13 people attended the Saturday game on 19 February. We are happy to provide this experience for our members and many members from Stoll. Most of them had never been to a football match before, but they all loved catching the game—and hearing the roars of excitement from the crowd as shots went wide or goals were scored—at The Cottage.

We are very grateful for the hospitality the Club and the Supporters group provided. Special thanks to Tamara Dragadze for helping us with everything on the day. We pride ourselves in giving our members interesting and exciting opportunities—trying new things is part of what makes us who we are.

Thanks again, Fulham FC. We can't wait until next time!
