Making a Difference: Clarissa's Journey

Published on 08 June 2023 12:43 PM

Meet Clarissa; driven by her close connection to her grandparents and desire to positively impact the community, she embarked on a volunteering journey with Age UK Hammersmith & Fulham. Her passion for supporting older individuals led her to join our charity and contribute her time and energy to enhance later life.

Dedicated Service
Since September 2022, Clarissa has been an invaluable member of our volunteer team, devoting her weekends to assisting at our Charity Shop. With her commitment, she has played a vital role in ensuring the shop runs smoothly, making it more accessible and welcoming for both staff and visitors.

Connecting Through Conversations
Clarissa's experience at the shop has been filled with meaningful interactions and genuine connections. She has had the privilege of getting to know regular visitors who have been coming to the shop for years. Engaging in friendly chats about various topics, Clarissa appreciates the opportunity to network with individuals who share a passion for our cause.

Helping, Supporting, and Chatting
In her role, Clarissa assists visitors in finding specific items, supports the shop staff, and engages in conversations that go beyond just the merchandise. Her dedication and friendly approach bring joy and comfort to the older individuals she encounters. Building rapport with both visitors and staff, Clarissa creates a welcoming and supportive environment.

Personal Growth Through Volunteering
Clarissa's volunteering experience has had a transformative effect on her personal growth. Embracing a routine and gaining knowledge about older people's lives, Clarissa has developed increased confidence in interacting with unfamiliar individuals. Volunteering has empowered her to engage in conversations and build connections with people she may not have met otherwise.

Join Our Volunteer Community
Clarissa encourages everyone considering volunteering to take the leap. "Go for it; everyone is lovely to be around, and it is nice to have a little community. You know you'll be making a difference, and it makes you feel good, making others feel good."
