We help approximately 1,500 local older people every year, offering activities, events, befriending and information.

Community Officer (Information and Advice)

Our Community Officer Team provides ‘Information and Advice’ services to older people and their Carers living in the Horsham District.

A particular focus of our work is advising on Welfare Benefits for people over retirement age and providing information, advice and signposting in relation to health, social care and housing issues.

A vacancy has arisen for a Community Officer to join the team. Duties include responding to enquiries by telephone, email, and letter and in face to face meetings, often in the person’s own home. There is a requirement to complete accurate records on our Client Management System (Charitylog), with training being provided.

We are looking for a highly motivated person, preferably with previous experience of working with older or vulnerable adults to join our team based in Horsham. The successful candidate will have excellent inter-personal skills and ideally will have previous experience of working in a similar role.

They will work closely with local health, social care and voluntary sector partners to promote person-centred responses to help older people achieve their desired outcomes.

There is a requirement to travel across the Horsham District and the successful candidate will need to have use of their own car.

Working days: Monday to Wednesday

Hours: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm (21 hours per week)

Location: This role is based at Lavinia House, Dukes Square, Horsham, RH12 1GZ

Salary: £21,074 pa (full time equivalent – pro rata for part-time working) £10.92 per hour

Chef/Cook - Lavinia House

Are you passionate about providing excellent quality meals? Would you like the opportunity to take a lead role in launching a new catering service? Do you have a minimum of one year experience in a catering setting?

Age UK Horsham District has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dynamic cook to join our team at Lavinia House.

Our vision is for our Garden View Café to be a place where older people can gather together to socialise and enjoy great food and friendship and we are looking for someone to play a pivotal role in helping us achieve this. Could it be you?

We need someone to have responsibility for the day to day effective running of our catering service, with a small team, by

  1. Preparing and cooking a choice of delicious nutritious meals and snacks to be served in our Garden View café for up to 50 people a day.
  2. Preparing menus in advance taking into account customers known dietary needs and their meal suggestions
  3. Taking responsibility for all aspects of stock control including ordering, receiving deliveries and rotating stock.
  4. Completing all necessary food hygiene paperwork to enable us to maintain our five star EH Food Standard rating.
  5. Ensuring that all aspects of the kitchen are kept to the highest standard of cleanliness.

You should have previous experience of catering and working as part of a team in a social club or similar environment. Catering and food hygiene qualifications are preferred.

Lavinia House is conveniently situated a short walk from Horsham town centre and we have a car park available for staff to use.

All our staff are well supported and given the opportunity to access additional training relevant to enhancing their role. On completion of a probationary period you can access our pension scheme.

Salary: £16,398 pa (full time equivalent – pro rata for part-time working) £9.01 per hour
