Become A Fundraising Champion

Could you be a Fundraising Champion for a local, Island charity this year?
Why Us?
Since 1973 Age UK Isle of Wight has been here to enable older Islanders to live well, independently and to reduce loneliness and isolation. For over 50 years, we have successfully done this, but as the average age on the Island continues to rise so does the demand for our charity.
The Isle of Wight Council predicts that by 2030 almost 34.5% of the Island population will be over 65. At a time where our charity faces a strain on resources, we are determined to continue meeting the rise in demand for our support.
Last year alone, we supported nearly 5000 clients and responded to just over 15,000 calls to our phonelines.
Whilst we sit under the branding of Age UK, we are very much an independent charity, in charge of raising our own finances and self governing. This means that every penny we raise locally stays on the Isle of Wight, supporting our parents, grandparents, neighbours, and friends.
The Age UK charity shops on the Island are very popular, but the funds raised from these do not make their way to us, which often leads to confusion for those wishing to support us directly. We are based in St Thomas’ Square, Newport, right in the heart of the Island.
What Do Age UK Isle of Wight Do?
Age UK Isle of Wight support older people locally through a range of services, including;
- Dementia care navigation to help those with memory challenges even before diagnosis of a Dementia
- Help around the home to support you to remain independent and safe in your own home
- Telephone and face-to-face befriending to combat isolation and lonliness
- Monthly social groups
- Discharge support at St Mary's hospital to ensure there is a safety net in place for patients post-discharge, enabling faster discharge and reducing readmission
- Digital support to help bridge the digital divide for older people
- Information and signposting covering a variety of topics

All our services require a level of funding, and whilst we are proactively looking at ways to raise funds ourselves, through our own fundraising and grant applications, we know that moving forward we need the support of our Island community to continue to support – our Island community!
This is where you come in! We are looking for Fundraising Champions among our Island community. This could involve organising quizzes, coffee mornings, cake sales, or another type of charity event in aid of Age UK Isle of Wight.
