A new Cognitive Stimulation Therapy course aimed at helping people living with dementia and their carers, is looking for people to join them in Chorley and South Ribble.

The CST sessions, which are run by Age UK Lancashire, are starting in early October and will be available in Chorley and Leyland.

Abigail Ellis, CST Coordinator at Age UK Lancashire, says: “Cognitive Stimulation Therapy is the only non-drug treatment specifically recommended to improve cognition, independence and wellbeing for individuals living with mild to moderate dementia by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence”.

“Each CST session is themed an includes a range of creative activities, music, topical discussion, physical activity, quizzes and word & number games”.

The courses run for 12 weeks, followed by a special session for carers aimed at providing them with the tools and knowledge to continue supporting their loved ones in meaningful CST-based activities at home.

The courses start in Chorley Library on Tuesday the 4th October from 11am to 1pm and the Leyland course starts on Wednesday 5th October from 11am to 1pm at the Halls for All on Moss Lane.

The sessions are FREE of charge, but booking is essential and waiting lists may apply.

Each client will be given a suitability assessment prior to the course starting to ensure they will get the full benefit from attending.

Abigail Ellis added: “We have previously run these courses with amazing feedback and outcomes from people who attended.  Our expert team do an amazing job and make sure each member is fully engaged and supported throughout.  We highly recommend these sessions and would be happy to discuss them in more detail with people wanting to know more”.
