We need you to make a difference to older people

Our volunteers provide reassurance and low-level support to a person in their own home.  The Community Responder Volunteer will visit when support is needed.  It can be a worrying time when opeople are waiting for further support at home; our Coordinators will assign a volunteer to be that much needed “friendly face”.

This service covers the whole of Northamptonshire.

To join this rewarding service we ask that you are

  • age 18 or over
  • a confident caring person with empathy for older people
  • able to stay calm and offer reassurance
  • living locally in the current service area

Your visit could include:

  • waiting with the person when a delay is anticipated for urgent support from local health and social care services
  • visiting to check on someone's welfare
  • supporting the Intermediate Care Team to assist people who have fallen
  • collecting urgent prescriptions and delivering to the patient
  • collecting and delivering low-level mobility equipment

Please note this role is subject to Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.  We are sure that you will enjoy volunteering with us, and that you will always feel supported and safe.

Training

To fulfil this role additional online training from us will be required prior to start, in line with our policies and procedures:

  • Moving and Handling

Optional, in person, Moving and Handling training is offered where appropriate.

You will be supporting the development of an existing countywide befriending service.
