Aims and goals

Volunteers are vital in enablling us to run our eight shops in the county.  If you enjoy meeting new people and keeping busy, this could be the role for you.  No two days are ever the same! 

We are sure that you will enjoy volunteering with us, and that you will always feel supported and safe.

To help in our shops we ask that you are:

  • age 16 or over
  • able to commit on a regular weekly basis
  • honest, reliable and friendly

Role description

This role description no way implies or states that a contract of employment is or will be offered. This is a voluntary unpaid role.  We are able to support Duke of Edinburgh students with placements in our shops, so please get in touch for an informal chat.

What your day could involve

• Maintaining high standards of general housekeeping.
• Processing donations (which may involve sorting, steaming, and
preparing goods for sale.
• Serving and assisting customers.
• Operating the till.

Your responsibilities

  • To ensure that your personal appearance is to an appropriate standard
  • To be polite to customers and colleagues at all times
  • Arrive in good time for your shift
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times
  • To report any accidents sustained on site to the Shop Manager

Some important points

  • Always be sure to thank people for bringing in their donations to the shop
  • Be polite, friendly and tolerant to all customers and colleagues
  • Do not discuss shop takings in the shop or with anyone other than shop colleagues
  • Refer challenging customers to the Shop Manager
  • Refer general enquiries about the charity to the Shop Manager
  • Do not give advice on matters outside of your shop role
