Florence and I had been together 67 years and I relied on her so much. When I lost her I felt as though I had completely lost my life.

Money was very tight so I started cutting corners. To be honest, it got to the point where I wasn’t eating very much at all. I’m so glad I found out about Age NI when I did and actually lifted the phone. I nearly didn’t. They respect you and they go out of their way to help you and there’s no need to be embarrassed about that.

When I rang the advice line, it was Brenda who looked after me. They do a free benefits check for people. I had no idea that I could get a bit more help and that’s all I really needed to have enough. You wouldn’t believe the difference it’s made. Age NI gave me my life back.

John has sadly now passed away. His son, also called John, is very keen that his father’s story is shared and that it may encourage another older person in need to ring Age NI.
