Age NI Encourages Older People To Get Their COVID-19 Booster And Flu Vaccination

Published on 22 November 2023 02:04 PM

Autumn and winter can be a very challenging time of year and Age NI recommends that older people get their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to help them stay well and healthy.

Older people and those with health conditions are most at risk from the impact of flu and COVID-19 and it is important that they protect themselves as soon as possible.

Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations provide protection for those eligible and they help people from developing serious illnesses and reduce hospitalisations.

Unpaid carers, frontline health and social care staff, and household contacts of people with weakened immune systems are also eligible for flu and COVID-19 vaccinations – as are those with certain health conditions under the age of 65.

Linda Robinson, Chief Executive of Age NI said,

‘’It’s important that those who are eligible for vaccinations get them as soon as they can. The flu is always a threat at this time of year and Covid-19 is still circulating. We encourage all older people to get their vaccinations.  The flu vaccine not only helps protect you from getting the flu, but it can also minimise the symptoms if you do get ill.

Staying well in winter is important and getting your vaccinations early is a great step towards ensuring this.’’

The programme is being implemented using GPs, community pharmacies and Health and Social Care Trusts, with the majority of vaccinations being administered by GPs and community pharmacies.
