Boardroom Apprentice

Published on 22 May 2022 11:00 PM

Age NI is delighted to have been a host board for the Boardroom Apprentice programme for the past four years, and we’ve had some fantastic apprentices join us. Applications for this year’s programme are now open, so if you’re interested in experiencing life as a trustee or voluntary board member, now’s your chance! Keen to know more?

Open to those aged 16 or over from all backgrounds and all abilities, this unique board learning and development programme is looking for a diverse range of Boardroom Apprentices to take a seat at one of 58 host boards and attend a suite of learning days throughout the year.

Founded by Eileen Mullan in 2017, the programme is now in its sixth year and has helped 223 individuals across Northern Ireland make their aspiration of sitting on a board a reality whilst helping to diversify boardrooms in the public and third sector. Age NI have hosted boardroom apprentices for several years as we see nothing but positives from doing so.

Age NI CEO Linda Robinson highlighted "It's an amazing opportunity! Candidates should not be daunted by becoming a Boardroom Apprentice; you will not only receive top notch classroom learning and guidance, but all-important experience: it's like going behind the scenes at the highest level - what a privilege! It's also without pressure: you can start by simply being a fly-on-the-wall and quietly absorbing the whole process while you find your feet and understand the workings of a board from the inside. What an amazing opportunity as an individual, and what a catch you'll be to any future boards looking for Trustees who really get it!"
