Audience at Deaf Awareness Event
The Redbridge Deaf Awareness Event held at Age UK Redbridge, Barking & Havering on 16th May was opened by the Mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Linda Huggett, and was well attended by both professionals and members of the public. Talks were given by Jeanann Doyle, an NHS Nutritionist and cochlear implant user, Maureen Fisher a lip reading teacher, Vaitheki Maheswaran an Audioligist and Jasbir Jheeta who runs the Falls Prevention service for Age UK RBH

Jeanann Doyle
Jeanann Doyle currently an NHS Nutritionist and Student Ambassador for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in Ireland, told the audience of her journey from being severe to profoundly deaf at a young age to the recent fitting of a cochlear implant which has been a completely life-changing experience. Her work as a nutritionist takes her to deaf communities in London, providing accessible workshops.
