Arising from the current Covid-19 crisis and the resulting social isolation, these artist-led workshops provide opportunities for Ilford-based over 65s to work with artists to make art projects, learn new skills and socialise remotely from their homes.

Participants will receive a package posted to them with the outline for an artist-led project, including materials and instructions. The artist will lead weekly discussion groups via a simple phone in conference call to offer workshop support and to explore the experiences of being isolated.

Project 2: Recollections on Cloth

Starting Monday 8 June for 5 weeks.

Discussions and feedback sessions: Wednesdays 10.30 – 12.00

Led by artist Lara Hailey, you will learn various embroidery stiches and the process of applique. The focus of the discussions will be on memories associated to objects, clothing and fabric as well as one’s current relationship to nature. The set of weekly activities will guide you through the process of designing your pattern, stich tutorials and concluding in creating your own fabric work. Lara will add your piece to a collective quilt.

The workshop is limited to 12 participants. If you are unable to sign up to this project there will be further opportunities to join upcoming projects led by other artists.
