VIVA LA NAN - Memories of our Nans
Published on 12 November 2025 02:28 PM

During October at Age UK Sheffield, we teamed up with local artist Pete McKee to celebrate every 'Nan', 'Nana', 'Granny' or 'Gran', because we know that our grandparents hold a special place in all our lives. Whether it’s homemade jam, sandwiches packed with all that love, or stories that became a Christmas tradition, the lessons and memories they share stay with us always. There is no better way to highlight that than to share our favourite memories and life lessons.
On the 11th & 12th October — in tandem with Pete’s “VIVA LA NAN” double exhibition at Leah’s Yard — we hosted a stand inviting people to share their favourite memories: what your Nan taught you, and all the little things that make her unique. We were delighted that more than 100 memories were added, and honoured to hear how much our grandparents mean to us.
This project also helped raise over £200 for Age UK Sheffield, thanks to a portion of the prints and artwork sales from the exhibition being donated to support our charity’s local work. We’re incredibly grateful to all who contributed "your generosity helps us continue supporting older people across Sheffield to live well and stay connected." - Age UK Sheffield

If you missed the live event, don’t worry! We’ll be launching a virtual memory wall soon, an online celebration of those memories, exclusively at Age UK Sheffield. Keep an eye out for the link coming your way.
