Old friends, first steps and a full dance floor at The Westway

A married couple arrived at Age UK Surrey’s Tea and Dance event expecting a nice afternoon out. They left having been reunited with friends they used to go ballroom dancing with many years ago, and hadn’t seen since.
It was one of many moments that made the afternoon at The Westway Community Centre in Caterham so special. Held on Saturday 24th October, the event brought the community together for an afternoon of music, movement, and connection.
Guests enjoyed ballroom and Latin dance, caught up with friends old and new, and shared tea and cake in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. For one gentleman, it was the first time he had danced since Covid.
Paul and Suzanne led the afternoon with lively dance demonstrations and beginner-friendly teaching. Their encouragement helped everyone feel comfortable, confident and involved, and the dance floor was soon full.
Events like this are about so much more than dancing. They give older people the chance to stay active, build friendships and enjoy meaningful social connections, which is at the heart of what Age UK Surrey does.
We would like to thank Paul and Suzanne, Janet and the whole team at The Westway, and everyone who came along and supported the event.
