Our schools programme works with primary and secondary schools across the district bringing older and younger people together. We aim to create new understanding, develop shared programmes to support schools in the work they do, encourage volunteering and fundraising whilst raising awareness of the support we offer across the district.

If your school would like to get involved or find out more, please get in touch on 01977 552114.

  • Towngate Primary School

Following the fundraising efforts of years 5 and 6, we were invited into Towngate school to explain more about what we do at Age UK Wakefield District and how the money they raised will help our older community.

  • Larks Hill Infant and Junior School

As part of carers week at Larks Hill, our communications manager spoke with children in years 4 and 5 to explain a little about the many jobs roles at Age UK Wakefield District.

  • Grove Lea Primary School

Working with one of our volunteer befrienders, Grove Lea met with Geoff to look at letters he sent to his parents during world war II.  Geoff was invited into Grove Lea to talk about his experiences as an evacuee. The class then presented Geoff with a giant 90th birthday card to celebrate his special day.

  • Ryhill Infant and Junior School

For three years in a row, Year 1 has invited us into collect Christmas cards the class have carefully made and written.  We then walk along to the village post box and post them out to some of the more isolated people supported by Age UK Wakefield District.  Receiving a handmade card can really brighten up the festive period of someone living alone.  Often people will write back to the pupils to say thank you and have even started a regular pen friend relationship.
