Our Stories Exhibition - National Coal Mining Museum

Our Stories: preserving local memories for future generations
Our Stories is a National Lottery Heritage funded project delivered by Age UK Wakefield District. Through conversations with local residents, the project has preserved a rich collection of personal memories, capturing everyday life, work, family and community across the Wakefield District. These stories reflect the experiences of people who have grown up in or moved to the district before the digital age.
Through artwork and film created by local artists including cartoonist Tom Bailey and Empath Theatre CIC, this exhibition brings the shared experiences of people from across the district to life in inspiring new ways. The exhibition will also feature artwork by former miner Karl Jarratt from Castleford, whose remarkable work Age UK Wakefield District was introduced to as part of this project, with memories shared by participants in their own words.
Together, the stories and images celebrate the people, experiences and communities that have shaped the Wakefield District's past and continue to enrich its future.
