Friendly digital support from Age UK Wakefield District
Would you like to feel more confident using the internet, a smartphone, tablet or computer? Perhaps you’re not sure where to start, or you find it difficult to use online services.
You’re not alone, and it’s never too late to learn.
Age UK Wakefield District is here to help people aged 50 and over across the Wakefield District build their digital skills and confidence, so they can enjoy the benefits of getting online and feel more independent in everyday life.
You don’t need to be an expert, and you don’t need to know anything before you start. We can help you learn at your own pace, with support tailored to your needs.
How can getting online help me?
Being able to use the internet can make many everyday tasks easier. It can also help you stay connected with the people and activities that matter to you.
With the right support, you could learn how to:
• Keep in touch with family and friends – send messages, share photographs and make video calls.
• Access health services – find health information, use the NHS App and access GP online services where available.
• Find financial support – look for information about benefits, financial help and other services you may be entitled to.
• Manage everyday tasks – access council services, complete online forms and find useful information.
• Stay safe online – learn how to protect your personal information, recognise suspicious messages and avoid scams.
• Discover local activities – find community groups, events and opportunities to meet people and try something new.
You can choose what you would like to learn. Whether you want to master the basics or get help with one particular task, we’re here to help you take the next step.

Worried about getting started?
It’s perfectly understandable to feel nervous about using technology, especially if you’ve never used it before.
You might worry about pressing the wrong button, making a mistake, forgetting what you’ve learned or falling victim to a scam. You may also find that using a screen, keyboard or touchscreen is difficult.
There’s no such thing as a silly question.
You can tell us what you find difficult and what you would like to be able to do. We’ll help you explore the options available and work towards building your confidence.
You don’t have to learn everything at once, and you don’t have to do it alone.
Getting online should be your choice
We know that not everyone wants to use the internet, and that’s okay. You should still be able to access information and support in ways that work for you.
But if you would like to learn more about getting online, we’re here to help you explore what’s possible.
Our aim is to help you feel more confident, stay connected, access the services you need and enjoy greater independence.
