Laburnum Centre Lease Extended

Older people get new lease of life in Bognor - Age UK West Sussex centre secured until 2034!
Age UK West Sussex announced today that Arun District Council has extended the lease on its centre in Bognor Regis for fifteen years. The Laburnum Centre, which has over 1,100 members is a vibrant space offering a gym, thriving café and 80 fitness and activity classes a week.
Members of the Laburnum centre are all 50 plus and can join classes including knitting, bingo, calligraphy, languages and woodworking. Those wanting to remain active in later life can join the gym, which has over 400 members and also offers tai chi, yoga, pilates, dance classes and many strength and stability classes. There’s also a hair and beauty salon, a walking football team, a running club and a pole dancing class!
Arun District Council has provided funding to support Age UK West Sussex to operate the Laburnum Centre for a number of years, and recognises the fantastic contribution the centre makes to the local community, has just signed the lease until 2034.
Helen Rice, Chief Executive of Age UK West Sussex said “The Laburnum Centre is an incredible place, full of life and a hive of activity. We’re over the moon that Arun District Council are supporting it for years to come. One of our aims is to help people love later life and the Council’s support allows us to do this. With its gym and wide range of activities, it’s a special place, which is hugely valued locally. We were keen to ensure that local people are able to continue making the most of their lives at 50, 80, even 100. The Laburnum Centre has something for everyone and truly helps people thrive.”

Age UK West Sussex and Age UK Brighton & Hove merged in July 2019. Last year the charities helped over 15,000 older people, tackling a range of issues like poverty, social care and loneliness as well as helping people make the most of later life.
