The Elderberry Club - for carers

We provide the opportunity for carers of people with dementia and carers of frail older people to take some time for themselves, knowing the people they care for are in a safe, stimulating environment.

The Elderberry club at Haywards Heath runs every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 10am – 4pm and the team provide a range of stimulating activities and a delicious hot two course lunch designed to keep everyone happy.

The atmosphere at the Elderberry Club at Haywards Heath is particularly friendly and fun - see below!

How does the service work?

Both the carer and person who is cared for become joint-members of Age UK West Sussex and The Elderberry Club once a referral and subsequent assessment have been made.

A referral can be made by family, friends, social services, GPs, nurses or other carers.

The assessment takes place at your chosen centre and involves a series of questions which enable us and you to ensure The Elderberry Club is the ideal choice for the carer and person who is cared for. After the assessment there is the opportunity to meet the other members and take a tour of the centre.

Once you have joined The Elderberry Club there is no limit to the number of days you may attend throughout the year or how much of the day you spend at the centre.

What do days with The Elderberry Club involve?

For those who have dementia, the trained and experienced team plan a variety of activities and cognitive stimulation games. Carers may be comfortable in the knowledge that those who are usually in their care, spend the day in trusted hands.

How much does it cost?

Each day includes a hot two-course meal, refreshments throughout the day and activities.

It's £25 for annual membership and £42.50 per day for respite care.

Come and have a free trial* session and see if this is for you!

*Usually takes place over a couple of hours.
