About the event
Join us on Sunday 23rd September 2018 for Vélo South, a major new 100 mile closed road sportive for the UK and cycle your way across beautiful West Sussex to raise vital funds to help older people enjoy later life and live independently for longer.
Vélo South will take 15,000 riders of all ability levels on a truly unforgettable journey through the stunning West Sussex countryside. Enjoying the lush scenery of the South Downs National Park as you start and finishing your amazing cycling journey on the hallowed tarmac of Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit. This is the ultimate challenge for an amateur cyclist.
As general entry tickets have now sold out, the only way to ride is with a charity place. We have a limited number available right now. With a registration fee of £40 per ticket, we are asking for a committment to raise at least £400 for Age UK West Sussex to help older people.
From lunch clubs in Crawley to tea and chat in Chichester, Age UK West Sussex fight loneliness across the county. Ride with us and warm the hearts of thousands of older people who would otherwise face the ups and downs of everyday life alone.
Starting trackside on the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit, you’ll cycle east towards Horsham, the first 10 miles of which is slightly hilly as you gradually ascend into the downs. After mile 15 you’re into quintessential West Sussex countryside with its short ups and downs, passing many pretty villages and hamlets in the process. Staying south west of Horsham at mile 50, you’ll begin to head back westwards and it won’t be long until you’re back in the South Downs National Park from mile 65. The ride’s iconic climbs lie in wait, and you’ll need to ensure you leave enough in the tank for South Harting KOM (King of the Mountain) which falls at mile 87. From the summit it’s a gradual and kind descent back toward Chichester and onto a grandstand finish on the track of Goodwood motor circuit.
A registration fee of £40 is payable on sign up with a commitment to raise a minimum of £400.
