Age UK Big Knit latest hats just in

We have just received 100 wonderful smoothie hats from Lyn today, she took up knitting again to get involved in our Smoothie Hat campaign with Innocent and the national Age UK charity.  

Lyn told us that 'I class myself as an inexperienced, reluctant knitter, having last knitted over 30 years ago when I made a matinee jacket when my daughter was born.  When I was told about the Big Knit campaign to knit bobble hats with money raised going to Age UK County Durham, I thought I’d give it a go, especially as I was given a ball of wool to get me started.  I loved the sense of achievement I gained from my first bobble hat and something was awakened in me. 

I initially aimed to knit 10 hats, but extended my challenge to 100.  As my confidence in knitting grew, I found many different hat patterns to try including:- octopus, sheep, kettle, monkey, shark, postbox, dinosaur to name a few. 

I’ve loved the fun I’ve had knitting and I have learnt a lot of knitting skills along the way.  Amazingly for me, I’ve achieved my aim of knitting 100 hats.  I’m so pleased to be a part of helping to raise money for Age UK County Durham.  Seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they’ve seen the many different hats I’ve knitted is very rewarding; but the biggest smile is my own, in that I’ve achieved something I thought I’d never be able to achieve.’

Each hat sent to Innocent raised 30p for Age UK County Durham.  If you’d like to get involved, call us on 0191 386 3856 – the campaign for this year ends in July so we need to get as many hats sent in by the end of June this year.
