You can ask questions with no obligation.

Appointments are available at our office in Newtown and other locations across Powys.

Booking is essential as appointments are limited.

We offer free 30‑minute appointments for you to chat one-to-one with a qualified local Powys solicitor.

How much is the initial appointment?
All initial appointments are completely free of charge.

Where are the appointments held?
The appointments are held at the Age Cymru Powys office in Parkers Lane, Newtown, Powys SY16 2LT. Additional locations are available upon request.

Why do I need a will?
Making a will is the only way to make sure your money, property, possessions and investments (known as your estate) go to the people and causes you care about.

Why do I need a power of attorney?
A power of attorney is a way of giving someone you trust the legal authority to make decisions on your behalf if you're no longer able to make them yourself – or if you don't want to.

Do I have to use the solicitor I meet at the appointment?
There is no obligation to make a will or power of attorney. You do not have to use the solicitor you meet at the appointment. If you decide to proceed with legal work after the appointment, this would be arranged directly with a solicitor of your choice, and any costs would be agreed between you and that firm.

Can I ask questions about my existing will or power of attorney?
Yes, the appointments are suitable whether you need a will or power of attorney, or want to discuss making changes to existing ones.

Is it complicated?
Making a will or power of attorney doesn’t have to be complicated – we free offer half-hour appointments with trusted local solicitors, along with guides, factsheets and friendly support from our team. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Who are the appointments for?
Appointments are designed for older Powys residents aged 50 and over, and their families and carers.

Will I receive a discount if I choose to make my will or power of attorney through this service?
Yes, participating solicitors offer reduced rates if you choose to proceed with a will or power of attorney through this service, although there is no obligation to do so. Please contact us to find out more.

There's no obligation to leave a gift in your will to Age Cymru Powys. However, after you've taken care of your loved ones, a gift in your will could be a lifeline for older Powys residents who are struggling – you can help us provide weekly friendship calls and help local older people access the vital advice, care and services they deserve.
