Donation from Ormskirk Rotary

Published on 16 April 2019 03:37 PM

We were delighted to receive a cheque for £500 from Ormskirk Rotary Club members at their meeting on Tuesday 16th April.  This money was donated following discussions between Age UK Lancashire staff and Rotary Club members and will fund the establishment of a support group for the carers of people with Dementia in the West Lancashire area.

Anne Oliver, Community Engagement Manager from Age UK Lancashire received the cheque from John McCormick, Chair of the Ormskirk Rotary Club and said: “This generous donation will allow staff and volunteers at our Wellbeing Centre on Moorgate to provide a safe place for carers to come and share their experiences, receive support and advice and socialise. The money will be used to fund advertising materials, refreshments and other costs for the first year after which we hope the group will be self-sustaining”.

The Carers Support Group will be run alongside and compliment the West Lancashire Dementia Hub which is being launched at the Wellbeing Centre on Wednesday 8th May.  People living with dementia, their family and carers will have the opportunity to visit the Dementia Hub on the third Wednesday of every month to get information, and expert advice from a variety of organisations and listened to a guest speaker at each event.

The Wellbeing Centre on Moorgate in Ormskirk is open 5 days a week offering activities and access to services including help in the home after a hospital visit and foot care.  More information can be found by calling 0300 303 1234 or visiting the centre to talk to the friendly team.
