Location:   countywide

Rate of pay:  £11.69 per hour

Hours:  casual - zero hour contract

About the role

If you love working in a busy shop and providing an excellent service to customers and donors alike, this is the job for you.  You will provide management support at our eight shops across the county, enabling Age UK Northamptonshire to keep the shops open and running smoothly.  This may be at short notice so being flexible is a key requirement of this role.  In return there will be plenty of variety and you will be meeting new people and using your intitiative to adapt to the needs of each shop every day.

Our shop managers help ensure that sales and profit are maximised and that our retail teams provide a great customer experience at all times.  We also like to ensure that our donors and their donations are treated with respect and gratitude.  You will maintain the morale of our shop volunteers by providing them with the support they need and helping them to use their skills and aptitudes effectively.  Our shops play a key role in the local community, promoting the services and support that the charity provides, as well as bringing money into the local economy.  We like to join in community events and provide a friendly environment where people can volunteer and feel connected to their local area.

You will help maintain accurate accounts, records and logs and perform other administrative tasks in connection with the shop.  You will also help maintain high standards of cleanliness and order at our premises, ensuring a safe environment for everyone visiting the shop.

About you

If you love retail and would like to make a positive difference to your community, this is the job for you.  We are looking for someone who has a good standard of education and is computer literate.  Experience of working in retail is essential, as are excellent merchandising skills.  If you can confidently sort donated goods, pricing them and displaying them attractively to maximise sales, you would find this role very satisfying.  We never know from one day to the next what items will be donated to our shops, so recognising vintage items or designer label clothing would be a valued skill.

Our shops help prevent waste, encouraging re-use and recyling, so by managing the stock effectively you can have a beneficial effect that reaches beyond raising funds that improve later life in Northamptonshire.  Bring your energy and passion for high street retail and fashion and excellent organisational skills, and help a local charity raise vital funds.
