Dogs and cats that have given so much love and companionship to their owners during lockdown are getting their opportunity to shine and be celebrated, while helping to raise funds for a good cause.

Age UK North Shropshire Supporters are encouraging pet owners to enter photos of their dogs and cats in a photo competition. There are five categories:

  1. Prettiest puppy or kitten
  2. Most beautiful dog or cat
  3. Pet most like their owner
  4. Best action shot
  5. Highest combined age of pet and owner.

Owners are asked to donate £2 per photo entered into the competition. The closing date is Friday 18 September.

The top three winners in each category will receive a rosette and certificate, and their photographs will appear on the Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin website and Facebook pages: first prizewinners will appear in the Border Counties Advertizer.

Anne Wignall, Chair of Age UK North Shropshire Supporters, said: ‘We hope lots of people will have fun sending us photos of their gorgeous cats and dogs. At the same time, they will be supporting the work of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin in North Shropshire, a charity that has worked tirelessly during lockdown to help older people at a very challenging time.’

Between April and June 2020, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin answered 3,023 enquiries from older people, telephoned over 320 isolated people every week, provided a free emergency shopping service for over 200 people, and provided 15,000 hours of support through our Help at Home scheme.
