We are here for you

At Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, our commitment to supporting older people remains as strong as ever. Every day, our staff and volunteers work alongside local people to help them stay informed, connected, independent and supported.
Like many charities, we continue to face significant financial pressures. Following the cessation of funding from Shropshire Council, we have taken the difficult decision to close our Help at Home service, which will cease operations by 31 August 2026.
While we know this news will be disappointing for many people, we want to reassure older people, their families and carers that we continue to offer a wide range of trusted services across the county. As an independent local charity, these services are made possible through the generosity of our supporters and the grants we receive so are available either free of charge or at a subsidised cost.
Advocacy
(Shropshire Council residents only)
Our advocacy officers support older people to understand their rights, make informed decisions and have their voices heard. We can provide advice and representation on issues including social care, housing, residential and nursing homes, and essential utilities such as water, gas and electricity.
Befriending
(Telford & Wrekin Council residents only)
Across Shropshire approximately 10,000 older people would describe themselves as ‘deeply lonely’. Our team of dedicated volunteers provide regular companionship for older people to help reduce loneliness and social isolation. Sometimes we visit people in their own home, or it can be a friendly chat over the telephone or accompanying them on a short walk or to a social event.
Day centres
(Telford & Wrekin Council residents only)
Our day centres offer a warm, welcoming and safe place where older people can enjoy companionship, take part in activities and share a hot meal. They provide regular opportunities to socialise, reduce loneliness and maintain independence while becoming part of a friendly community.
Dementia support
We provide a range of specialist dementia support services designed to improve the wellbeing of people living with dementia and those who care for them.
Our dementia support groups offer a friendly and supportive environment where people can enjoy meaningful activities, build social connections and spend time with others who understand their experiences. Family members and carers also benefit from practical advice and valuable peer support.
For carers, taking time to rest or attend to everyday responsibilities can be difficult. Our dementia respite service provides a safe, engaging and supportive environment for people living with dementia, giving carers the reassurance and peace of mind to take a well-earned break.
Still Caring is a social group for people who are or have been until recently, caring for someone else. The group helps carers that have little or no social interaction apart from the relative they care for by introducing them to other carers. It also supports people who find returning to social occasions overwhelming following an extended period of caring for a family member.
Information and advice
Our free and confidential information and advice service helps older people; their families and carers to find the guidance they need. Whether you have questions about benefits, finances, housing, legal matters, tax or planning for later life, our experienced and caring staff and volunteers are here to help. We will also identify any benefits or financial support you may be entitled to and help you make a claim.
Lasting Power of Attorney
Planning ahead can provide reassurance for you and your loved ones. We provide free advice on what a power of attorney is, the different types and what choices and options a donor can make. We also offer a provide straightforward and affordable lasting power of attorney service to draw up a power of attorney for you and guide you through every stage of the process, making it as simple and stress-free as possible.
Wellbeing activity groups
(Telford & Wrekin Council and South Shropshire residents only)

Our wide range of wellbeing activity groups offers something for everyone, from singing, line dancing and arts and crafts to our popular food and friendship groups, including our Men's Breakfast Club and Chip Shop Club. Whether you're looking to develop a new interest or simply enjoy good company, our groups provide a welcoming place to meet new people and make lasting friendships.
