Celebrating our volunteers, and a special announcement from the Mayor

The recently elected Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Singh Marwa MBE JP, and Mayoress, Mrs Satnam Kaur Marwa JP, joined us at our recent Volunteers Celebration at the Land Rover Sports and Social Club, and made a special announcement - Age UK Solihull is one of the Mayoral charities for 2026-27.

The Mayor gave a speech expressing his affinity with the charity, and met staff and volunteers to congratulate them on their hard work. We were delighted with the news, and look forward to working with the Mayor.

We were also thrilled to put on the event to say thank you to our volunteers, who do so much for our charity and enable us to support over 7,000 Solihull residents each year. Volunteers enjoyed a buffet and the chance to mingle with others, as well as a free raffle, and the presentation of long-service certificates for volunteers who had reached significant milestones, including Jean (right) who has been volunteering with us for 25 years!

The Mayor of Solihull said:

“Age UK Solihull is a local charity that provides vital support to people across our community, helping reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and ensuring that people feel connected and supported.

"None of this would be possible without the commitment of their volunteers. Whether they have been with the charity for one, five or twenty-five years, their dedication and generosity are an inspiration to us all.

"I’d like to wish Age UK Solihull continued success, and I am honoured to be able to support the charity during my year in office.”

Age UK Solihull’s mission is to ensure that older people within the borough can experience the best possible quality of life. We offer a range of services to help older people with some of the issues that ageing might bring, including a confidential information and advice service, a befriending service, technological advice, and help with debt and money problems.

We also hold regular social activities for older Solihull residents at various social clubs, pubs and parks around Solihull, so they can meet new local people and get to know the charity’s volunteers.

Our CEO, Anne Hastings, expressed her utmost gratitude to the Mayor of Solihull for selecting us as one of his chosen charities:

“We’re absolutely over the moon – it was such good news when we found out the new Mayor had chosen to support us. It will make an invaluable difference to our charity fundraising and the publicity we’ll gain over the Mayor’s year in office.”

Thank you to the Mayor for choosing to support us, and to all our volunteers for your invaluable contribution!
