Community raises funds and awareness for WEAAD

Local businesses, community groups and individuals across Solihull came together this June to support our World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) campaign, raising awareness of elder abuse and raising more than £900 to support older people in the borough.

Bake sale at Specsavers 2 467px.jpgSupporters embraced the campaign in a variety of creative ways, wearing purple, hosting purple-themed bake sales, knitting purple Big Knit hats and starting important conversations about the abuse, neglect and exploitation that can affect older people and the support that is available here in Solihull. We also held a collection day at Asda, Shirley, where generous shoppers made donations.

Bentley Heath Knit and Natter 4 467x.jpgThe campaign encouraged people to show their support by wearing purple, carrying out acts of kindness and donating or fundraising for Age UK Solihull. The funds raised will help us continue supporting older people who may be experiencing isolation, anxiety, loneliness or vulnerability to abuse.

Bright Dawn 1 467px.jpgOur Fundraising Manager, Rebecca Jacob, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported our World Elder Abuse Awareness Day campaign. Not only did people raise vital funds, but they also helped shine a light on an issue that is too often hidden. By wearing purple, fundraising and having conversations about elder abuse, our supporters have helped raise awareness and show older people that they are valued, respected and not alone. Every donation helps us continue to be here for older people across Solihull.”
