Befriending Letters

Letters written during World War II  found during Befriending chat

During a regular, weekly befriending visit, Geoff told John about letters he'd found from his time as an evacuee in World War II.  Geoff had written the letters to his parents but hadn't seen them in years.  John read the letters with Geoff and thought they were a wonderful piece of history which should be shared.  With Geoff's permission, John contacted the local primary school, Grove Lea in Hemsworth who were thrilled to meet Geoff and see his letters.

After Geoff's visit, the children made him a special birthday card for his 90th birthday and have stayed in contact.

Volunteer Befrienders offer one hour a week to have a chat and build a new friendship, for more information on how to become a volunteer, click here
