Middlestone Moor Primary School Christmas Cards for Sycamore Lodge Care Home in Spennymoor

Our exciting project, which started during the summer, was created to maintain and increase our links and connections with local schools, care homes and communities during the coronavirus crisis.  This is growing from strength to strength.

Never Alone Always Heard is an invaluable link to those living in County Durham who are feeling lonely or isolated

‘Reading the student’s letter made me feel they were in the room with me’

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the primary school children, university and college students and individuals who have written letters and cards for us to pass onto care home residents and those who receive regular wellbeing calls from our volunteers and staff.

Deaf Hill, Kelloe, Laurel Ave, Tudhoe, Middlestone Moor, Langley Moor, St Benet’s, St Stephen’s and Pittington primary schools have been very busy as have the students from Durham University, Bishop Auckland College and Brandon and Carrside Youth and Community Group. Residents in Craigarron, Lothian House, The Beeches, Chester View, Sycamore Lodge, The Orchards, Southfield Lodge and St Aidan’s care/residential homes have been delighted to receive their letters and cards.

They are very much appreciated as it helps them feel more connected to their communities and less isolated.  Some residents have started to reply to their messages which has delighted the primary school children taking part.

Pupils at Edmondsley Primary School (162 in total), wrote letters and created hand-made cards to be sent to local people living in care homes including St Aidan’s Residential care home who received their letters and cards last week.
