Age UK County Durham Covid-19 volunteers are brilliant

Here at Age UK County Durham, we are always working hard to make sure older people living in County Durham are safe and well – but we are working even harder during the Covid-19 situation.

We would really like to thank our Covid-19 Help at Home volunteers who have been amazing - without their support and commitment, vulnerable older people living in County Durham would be struggling during these difficult times.

Up to Friday, last week, staff at Age UK County Durham have recruited over 100 volunteers who have offered to help us arrange shopping and prescription collections and deliveries and to make weekly wellbeing phone calls.

So far we have responded to over 3,500 calls for help, support and information and our volunteers have completed over 500 ‘jobs’ for us and for our clients in 15 AAP areas throughout the County

Over 25% of those receiving support are aged over 75 and 26% of our callers are aged over 85.  All of them are in self-isolation and many live alone with no-one to help them or have no family nearby who are able to help their loved ones.

We are responding to all offers of help and want to recruit more volunteers and to keep our support services running during this difficult time.  We really could not have done this without people coming forward to offer their time and support.

So a HUGE thank you to our volunteers, you are wonderful.

If you would like to join our team of brilliant volunteers, email us at info@ageukcountydurham.org.uk to see how you can be involved.
