Older people in and around Knowle now have new a place to eat, drink, socialise and be entertained every week.

We have set up a weekly lunch club for over 60s called the Thursday Friendship Club, or “Club TFC”.

Around 25 people joined Age UK Solihull staff and volunteers at the club’s launch last Thursday (2 May 2019).

The club will take place every Thursday from 12.00-3.00pm at The Red Lion Pub on Knowle High Street. Guests can enjoy a hot meal, activities, and the company of others. It costs £8 to attend each week, with £5 going straight to the pub to cover food and drinks, and £3 coming to Age UK Solihull to pay for raffle prizes and activities. There is a bus stop outside the pub, making it as accessible as possible for people who don’t drive.

Club TFC is the latest addition to our clubs run by our Linking People Together service.

Amanda Wilkinson, Linking People Together Coordinator, says, “Our social clubs encourage older people to get out and socialise, and we are delighted to have launched Club TFC. We were very happy to see lots of new faces there and we’re very grateful for the support from the pub, and our fantastic volunteers.”

Pub Manager, Jacqui, from The Red Lion (part of the M&B/Ember Inns group), adds, “We are really looking forward to supporting such a worthwhile social group for older people in the community and we’re pleased that our venue has been chosen to host Club TFC”.
