We caught up with some of our volunteers and how they've found it working at Age UK Solihull

Rebecca ~ Volunteer Befriender

1) Why did you volunteer with Age UK Solihull?

"I began volunteering because I wanted to make a difference to someone's daily life whilst expanding my skills for my future career prospects."

2) What positive experiences have you gained from volunteering for this charity?

"The positive experiences I have gained through volunteering with this charity are endless. Through befriending for over a year, I have gained a relationship with someone of a different generation from me which continues to be a rewarding experience whilst also interacting with other volunteers and being part of many fun events."

3) What would you say to anyone thinking of volunteering for Age UK Solihull?

"No matter how much time you have, your age or your experience - get involved today! Make a difference to someone and gain memories and experience along the way."

Clare ~ Fundraising Volunteer

Why did you volunteer with Age UK Solihull?
I volunteered for Age UK Solihull about 5 years ago now because I wanted to find a charity locally to support and I have always enjoyed the company of older people. Age UK Solihull also provides support for people in the Solihull area which means you are able to see the effects of the money that you help raise.

2.       What positive experiences have you gained from volunteering with this charity?
Age UK Solihull has helped me to understand some of the challenges facing older people in the area including both loneliness and need for support from others. I have met some very special older people who have benefitted enormously from the work of the charity. I have spent time at a Wednesday club run by the charity that provides tea and activities for those that come along and events like this provide a place for older people to socialise and make friends. Without events like this many of these people would not go out and meet people.

3.       What would you say to anyone thinking of volunteering for Age UK Solihull?
I would say do it. You will find it extremely rewarding and enjoyable. Whether you are able to just attend a few events or devote time each week to the charity it all counts. All those working for the charity and the volunteers are friendly and welcoming.
