Bereavement Advice and Support Service - BASS - offers practical advice and emotional support to bereaved people over the age of 18.
Wakefield CCG have commissioned NOVA in partnership with Age UK Wakefield District to provide a service that will support people over the age of 18 who have been bereaved. The Bereavement Advice and Support Service will offer individuals practical, financial advice and emotional support, through a Single Point of Access.
Specifically the service will provide:
- Information and advice on rights, benefits, pensions and other services required following a bereavement
- Information, signposting and referral to other specialist agencies who can help
- Practical solutions and assistance
- Emotional support to improve health and wellbeing
This will be done through:
- One to one support
- Telephone support
- Email support
- Drop in sessions
- Social support groups
Mutual support groups
Mutual support groups offer an opportunity for you to meet people in a similar position for an informal chat. These groups can be accessed either as a drop-in or by referral from a health professional.

We offer home visits to bereaved people who have difficulty accessing our services. Our specially trained Bereavement Support Workers provide one-to-one emotional support, advice and information.

The advocacy service provides more long term one-to-one support to make informed decisions about your life. Advocates can help you to understand your rights and ensure that you are treated fairly.
