Care about Carers this International Women’s Day

Published on 08 March 2019 01:39 PM

This International Women’s Day marks two years since the Government promised to bring forward plans to put social care on a sustainable footing. The promised social care green paper should outline how people will get the help and support they need.

Five delays, over two years, and we are still yet to see any progress – and it is often women who are paying the price.

Over 850,000 women in the UK are caring for older relatives whilst raising a family. 44% of those are providing over 35 hours of care a week and are still in paid work and receiving little support.

We’re at breaking point

‘I don’t think there’s a day gone by in the last three years where I’ve not sat there and cried my eyes out.’ - Sarah

Women like Sarah are providing 24/7 care for a parent whilst bringing up a family, meaning that their lives and careers are being put on hold.

Please share our video over social media to tell the Government it is time they delivered on their promises. The social care burden on women has meant that thousands are at breaking point as shown by the stories in our video. You can read the Breaking Report here.
