It has been a busy and rewarding time for our Veterans Project, made possible with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund. Over the past few weeks, our team has been out in the community, connecting with veterans, sharing stories, and celebrating their experiences.

On Monday 9 March, we had the pleasure of attending the Military Veterans Club breakfast in Glanaman, Carmarthenshire. Veterans Officers Neil and Hugh delivered a short talk about the project, highlighting some of the powerful stories we’ve been privileged to capture. In particular, they shared experiences from three club members who have taken part in the project, stories that reflect the rich history, resilience, and camaraderie of the veteran community.

The club itself is a fantastic independent group supporting military veterans and their families. It’s inspiring to see the impact of this space, made even stronger through the support of Age Cymru Dyfed Veterans Officer, Owen Dobson.

Later that week, on 11 March, we joined a special Veterans drop-in event at Ystwyth Surgery in Aberystwyth. Veterans Officer Neil Davies, alongside our dedicated volunteer Steve Munro, spent time speaking with attendees and sharing stories from National Servicemen.

These conversations sparked meaningful connections and offered an opportunity for more veterans to engage with the project. Steve said,

“The comments we received from people were really encouraging. People really value what we are doing. It’s thanks to National Lottery Heritage Fund, that we can share these Veterans stories."

Moments like these remind us why this work is so important. Every story shared helps preserve the voices and experiences of those who have served, ensuring they are remembered and valued for generations to come.

We’re looking forward to continuing this journey, meeting more veterans, and uncovering even more remarkable stories along the way.
