What's On This Autumn?

Connecting communities across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire

This autumn at Age Cymru Dyfed, we are bringing people together across West Wales with a wide range of activities designed to support wellbeing, learning, friendship and fun. Whether you’d like to brush up on your money management skills, meet like-minded people over a cuppa, explore the outdoors or try something new, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

We’re delighted to be running free financial skills workshops at People Speak Up, Arts, Health & Wellbeing Hub on Park Street, Llanelli. Taking place on Mondays through October from 10am to 12pm — these friendly sessions will help you build confidence, gain knowledge and take control of your money. You’ll have the chance to learn about budgeting, scam awareness, understanding and improving your credit score, online banking and financial survival skills.

Our Financial Wellbeing Officers will also be on hand to offer individual guidance, from welfare benefit advice to financial wellbeing checks, and help with budgets, grants, discounts and concessions. The workshops are completely free for Carmarthenshire residents and can be booked by calling 0300 0200 002 (option 2), emailing cfwss@ctcww.org.uk or visiting www.ctcww.org.uk. This service is provided by Age Cymru Dyfed in partnership with Carers Trust Crossroads West Wales.

For members of the LGBTQ+ community aged 50 and over, our Pride in Age Friendship Group offers a warm, inclusive space to meet new friends and enjoy good company in a relaxed and safe setting. Meet-ups are held at a range of cafés and community venues across Aberystwyth, Newcastle Emlyn and Lampeter throughout September, October and November. It’s a wonderful way to connect with others and feel part of a supportive community.

If you’re an unpaid carer in Ceredigion aged 50 or over, our Rest & Reset group offers a chance to take time for yourself. With sessions running in Aberaeron, Aberystwyth and Tregaron, you’ll be welcomed into a friendly space to meet new people, relax over a light lunch and a cuppa, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime.

In Carmarthen, our Groove & Move dance sessions are proving popular. Held every other Tuesday from 3 to 4pm at Parc Dewi Sant, these free sessions are fun, social and perfect for anyone aged 50+ who loves music and wants to stay active. No experience is necessary — just bring your energy and enjoy the rhythm. Spaces are limited to 15 per session, so booking early is advised by calling 03333 447 874 or completing our simple online form.

Across Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, our much-loved Brew Buddies friendship groups continue to offer regular opportunities to meet for a free cuppa, good chat and friendly faces at different cafés and community venues. These groups meet fortnightly and are open to anyone over 50. They’re a fantastic way to meet people locally and feel connected to your community.

If you enjoy the outdoors, our Green Escapes adventure groups are a chance to explore some of West Wales’ most scenic locations. From beaches and castles to gardens, craft activities and coastal paths, each session brings together people aged 50 and over to share gentle walks, fresh air and beautiful surroundings in good company.

For those who love being creative, our Carmarthen Crafty Crusaders sessions run every Thursday at 10am at Building 1, Parc Dewi Sant. You can unleash your creativity with craft activities or try something completely new with AI art sessions — or do both. It’s a great way to relax, express yourself and make new friends along the way.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re also excited to be planning more Digital Days, helping you get to grips with tools like YouTube, smart speakers, ChatGPT, podcasts, managing photos and staying safe from scams online.

If walking is more your style, our Shake, Rattle & Stroll group meets every Wednesday at 10am in Burry Port, starting at Seaview Terrace Car Park. Each week we take a different route around the local area, from Burry Port Harbour to the Millennium Coast Path. Dogs are welcome, and it’s a lovely way to combine gentle exercise with good company.

We’re also running Social Footcare Clinics in Aberystwyth and Cardigan for over-fifties who need a little extra help to keep active and mobile. An initial visit costs £37, including your own nail-cutting kit, with follow-up visits at £22. To book, call 01239 615556.

Meanwhile, our Connecting Carmarthenshire drop-ins continue across the county, where our Information and Advice team offers free support to older people and adults with physical disabilities. Drop by to ask questions, get advice or find out what’s happening in your area.

We’ve also launched new social groups at Parc Dewi Sant — including Thursday morning gatherings where you can connect, engage and share experiences with others — and our monthly drop-in surgeries in Llanelli are another great way to meet our team and access help directly.
