Community transport for disabled and older people in Carmarthenshire

Age Cymru Dyfed, in partnership with local community transport provider Dolen Teifi, is proud to launch On The Go – Ar Y Ffordd, a new community transport scheme designed to improve mobility, independence, and wellbeing for disabled and older residents across Carmarthenshire.

Thanks to funding from the Motability Foundation, the scheme will introduce 10 wheelchair-accessible vehicles across 10 community locations over the next two years. These vehicles will provide safe, reliable transport not only for essential appointments, but also for social, recreational, and community activities – helping people stay connected and live fuller lives.

What the service offers

  • wheelchair-accessible vehicles available across Carmarthenshire
  • volunteer and family driver training, ensuring flexibility and local support
  • transport for health appointments, shopping, social visits, community events, and more
  • a focus on independence, wellbeing, and reducing isolation
  • referrals to additional services where needed
  • continuous improvement based on user feedback

Why it matters

“This is about more than just getting from A to B. It’s about independence, social connection, and wellbeing. Through this project, we aim to support people holistically, identifying additional needs and building long-term, sustainable community support.” (Deputy CEO of Age Cymru Dyfed, Caroline Davies)

“For over 20 years, Dolen Teifi has provided community transport across our region. This partnership with Age Cymru Dyfed helps fill the gaps in accessible transport, offering greater mobility and independence to those who need it most.” (Tom Cowcher, Chairperson of Dolen Teifi)
